32nd Annual Liturgy Conference Proceedings
Music in Catholic Worship
was held June 14-16, 2004
at the
University of Notre Dame
The year 2003 marked the anniversary of two liturgical documents that reshaped
Roman Catholic Worship in the 20th century. On November 22nd we observed
the 100th anniversary of Pope Pius X's motu proprio on liturgical
music Tra le Sollecitudini, and on December 4th we marked the 40th
anniversary of the Second Vatican Council's constitution on the sacred liturgy, Sacrosanctum
Concilium. By emphasizing the integral connection between music and
liturgy, both documents deepened our understanding of what "active participation" in
liturgy means.
The Notre Dame Center for Liturgy remembered these anniversaries during its 32nd annual pastoral liturgy conference.
